Shades of Gray
So, some of you may be aware that there is a book called 50 Shades of Grey on the New York Times best seller list that is causing a ruckus. One of the reasons that it’s getting so much attention is that it started as a Twilight fan fiction and was ‘rewritten’ into an original work. Heh.
It got me and my writer friend V thinking that if something like this can make it big with its origins in fan fiction, we can modify our fan fiction by changing it enough so that it’s not an infringement on copyright or trademark. It’s a shade of gray, yes, but its apparently one method to publication I had never even considered.
Of course, the fandom that I write in isn’t nearly as big as the Twilight fandom and most of my stories have a lot of original characters, locations, plot lines, etc, but even I am having problems deciding what my opinion about this is, morally.
I’m waiting to see if anything comes as far as a lawsuit for 50 Shades of Grey. I know that the movie rights were purchased by Universal Studios so it may just be coming to a theater near you although I am not sure how they can put erotica on the big screen and get it rated R. I haven’t seen any commentary yet about what Ms. Meyers thinks about this either.
One thing is for sure, this gives me an excuse to finish my current fan fiction projects.
Website Formatting
As I gear up to try to write a few more chapters for Lotor’s Gambit, I look at the long string of chapters on the right side of this blog and think that it’s going to get garishly long right quick. Being the web design enthusiast that I am, I know that is a bad design. So I have been thinking about utilizing Google Docs for older chapters. I’d put all older chapters into pdf format and upload them into Google Docs so that you could follow a link and pull up a document that has all the previously written chapters. It would be labeled “Chapter 1 -20″ or whatever applied. That way you aren’t scrolling down for eons to find a fic once I get more that one fic going. (ha ha ha.) What do you think?
Slight Re-Write
I did a little bit of an edit on chapter one of Broken. I fixed some errors and changed a little bit of it. I think that I have the tone of the chapter better and it’s a little less rushed at the end. I might move onto chapter two or return to another fic that I’ve already started.
I may have a little more time to write coming up as my position at work is being eliminated due to a restructure. I am hoping to find another position with the company soon. If not, its unemployment for me.
Holy Crap
I can’t believe that it’s been so long since I posted something there. Ugh.
I’ll try to get something written this weekend, since I have a 3 day weekend. Probably not Lotor’s Gambit or Allura’s Lament, Lotor and Allura for sure though.

Hey Folks
How are things going with you? I’m still here. My son is 8 months old and almost crawling! Heaven help me.
I keep thinking about my writing though and I keep coming back to Lotor’s Gambit. I do want to finish it. I will finish it. I just need to find the time. Since my hubby supports my desire to become a published author so he has agreed to give me an evening where I can just write, I don’t have to worry about taking care of the baby. Hopefully that works out but we’ll see.
Don’t hate me, I also took up knitting. Ugh.
Writing… & junk.
As I sit here, after a 3 am feeding, I realize just how precious my spare time is. I love my little poop machine, I really do, but he makes it hard to get much done. I believe that it took me a week, roughly, to organize my writing nook so that it’s usable again. Coming to terms with this unaccustomed but not unusual lack of free time has lead me to make a couple realizations.
I miss writing. I miss sticking my headphones in, tuning everything else out, and being in a different world for an hour or more an evening.
Free time is precious. Not that playing with my son isn’t great but with my crochet, writing, housework, friends, and internet addiction I have to learn to prioritize.
I want to get published. I’ve wanted to be a published author since I was in sixth grade. That’s not going to happen with a fan fiction. I love fan fiction and I’ll continue to write it but I can’t use the NaNoWriMo to create a new fan fiction when I have a three ring binder full of original ideas.
So, for all three of my fans, I will write more. Probably not before November since I have to make a life size cardboard guillotine for work but you never know…
And since the baby has fallen back to sleep, I’m going back to bed!
Personal Update
Hey folks. I just wanted y’all to know that I do plan on writing more but life is getting in the way.
My grandmother passed away this past week. It’s been sort of stressful on the family. I’ve been helping my mother get my grandmother’s estate in order.
Also, I am 6 1/2 months pregnant. So that means that I’ve got a lot of doctors appointments, birth classes, and baby showers to attend. I am also painting a mural on the walls of the nursery, which is taking a lot of time.
So I do plan to write more. I don’t know when I’ll have time though. As soon as I can find a spare moment, folks. Hang in there.
